Salt Lake City is inviting residents to an open house for the Cemetery Master Plan from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the basement of the Main Public Library, 210 E. 400 South in conference room B.

Input from residents will help the project team understand wants, needs, priorities, and concerns to help shape the direction of the master plan, according to a statement from City Hall.

City officials seek to develop a master plan that will meet its current and future needs, such as maintenance, management, funding, restoration and preservation.

"The Salt Lake City Cemetery is a treasured open space for our community, and with burials dating back to 1847, it is a vital link to the city's history," said Cemetery Sexton Mark Smith. "This master plan will combine community feedback with national best practices to enhance the cemetery's historic, natural, and recreational assets."

The master plan project consists of three phases: research and analysis, concept alternatives and plan development.

During the second phase, the project team will use the research findings to develop preliminary master plan solutions. The third phase – plan development – will result in a final draft of the cemetery master plan to be released in early 2017.

Public opinion will be solicited after each of these phases.
